    The Early Years

William Shakespeare was born in Stratford-upon-Avon, a small town, a population of 1,500 people, 160 miles north of London. The town was the center of the slaughter and sale of sheep and wool trade. Born Shakespeare is unknown, but there is a record of his baptism, dated April 26, 1564. This is the first official evidence about Shakespeare, as in the time of Elizabeth I were not issued birth certificates. Because baptism is usually held a few days after birth, it is very likely that Shakespeare was born in April 1564. There is a tradition of Shakespeare's birthday on April 23 is devoid of historical basis (while the children are not always baptized in 3 days after birth). However, it is remarkable that Shakespeare died on the same day in 1616. It is also the feast of St. George, the patron saint of England, so that this day can be considered a good birthday for the great English playwright.

Home of John Shakespeare is considered the birthplace of William.

William Shakespeare was the son of John Shakespeare, a successful artisan shiterfildskogo alderman, and Mary Arden, the daughter of the gentry. They married about 1557 and lived in Henley Street, in the house, which is considered the birthplace of the famous playwright. They had 8 children: Joan (baptized September 15, 1558, died in infancy), Margaret (cr. Dec. 2, 1562 - buried April 30, 1563), William Gilbert (cr. Oct. 13, 1566 - FSUs. February 2 1612), Joan (cr. April 15, 1569 - FSUs. Nov. 4, 1646), Ann (cr. September 28, 1571 - FSUs. Apr. 4, 1579), Richard (cr. March 11, 1574 - FSUs. 4 February 1613) and Edmund (cr. 3 May 1580 - FSUs. London, 31 December 1607).

Father of Shakespeare, a prosperous before his birth, was prosecuted for speculation wool and later deprived of the title of alderman. There is some evidence of Roman Catholic sympathies in both branches of the family.
